Go from bad to worse? (7)
I believe the answer is:
relapse
'worse?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.
'go from bad' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'go' could be 'elapse' (I've seen this before) and 'elapse' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'r' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'to' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for relapse that I've seen before include "unfortunate medical state" , "Fall back into former condition, being pleaser" , "Return to sickness" , "Get into bad habits again" , "New downturn in health" .)
