Going from bank to bank to get temporary loan (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

bridging

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'going' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with contact as well as being present participle verbs.
Maybe there's an association between them I don't understand?

'from bank to bank to get temporary loan' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'from' could be 'in' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'in' is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for bridging that I've seen before include "Connecting one side to another" , "Spanning" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
