Crossword Genius

Golden boy? (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

oscar

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'golden boy?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how one could define the other.

'boy?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'boy?' could be 'car' and 'car' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'os' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for oscar that I've seen before include "Film industry award" , "US film award" , "- - Peterson, pianist" , "feature of award ceremony" , "Librettist Hammerstein, d. 1960" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
