Crossword Genius

Good litre in a tea-urn, needing stirring - like some sugar? (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

granulate

'like some sugar?' is the definition.

'good litre in a tea-urn needing stirring' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'good' could be 'g' (abbreviation) and 'g' is found in the answer.
'litre' could be 'l' ('l' can be a synonym of 'litre') and 'l' is located in the answer.
'a' could be 'an' and 'an' is present in the answer.
an anagram of 'tea' is 'ate' which is present in the answer.
This may be the basis of clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Other definitions for granulate that I've seen before include "Break into fine particles" , "Break down into small fragments" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
