Got mixed up in a fight! (7)
I believe the answer is:
tangled
'got mixed up in' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with contact as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe you can see a link between them that I don't see?
'a fight' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'a' could be 'an' and 'an' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for tangled that I've seen before include "In a knotty mess" , "Knotty; snarled" , "Entwined" , "Muddled together, complicated" , "''Oh what a ... web we weave / when first we practise to deceive'' (Walter Scott)" .)
