Got out of a grave situation (7)
I believe the answer is:
exhumed
'got out of a grave situation' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I don't understand how they can define each other.
'got out of' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'out of' could be 'ex' ('out of' in Latin) and 'ex' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for exhumed that I've seen before include "Dug out (a corpse)" , "Disintered" , "brought to surface" , "Disinterred" , "Dug up a dead body" .)
