Got to know Shakespeare play and New Testament (6)
I believe the answer is:
learnt
'got to know' is the definition.
(to learn something is to get to know it)
'play and new testament' is the wordplay.
'play' becomes 'lear' (I've seen this before).
'and' says to put letters next to each other.
'new testament' becomes 'nt'.
'lear'+'nt'='LEARNT'
'shakespeare' acts as a link.
I am not very happy about this link. It may belong to another bit of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for learnt that I've seen before include "Acquired by instruction" , "Acquired knowledge or skill" , "Picked up" , "Realised" , "Came to know" .)
