Got up when the cold had run its course (8)
I believe the answer is:
ascended
'got up' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with motion as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'when the cold had run its course' is the wordplay.
'when' becomes 'as' (eg 'when I walked' means 'as I walked').
'the cold' becomes 'c' (eg on taps).
'had' says to put letters next to each other.
'run its course' becomes 'ended' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'as'+'c'+'ended'='ASCENDED'
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for ascended that I've seen before include "R [ROSE]" , "Climbed, went up" .)
