Great fellow possibly in the doghouse? (4)
I believe the answer is:
dane
'the doghouse?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how they can define each other.
'great fellow possibly' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'fellow' could be 'dan' (man's name) and 'dan' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
'in' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for dane that I've seen before include "Native of Copenhagen, for instance" , "See 7 Down" , "Eg, Hamlet" , "One from Esbjerg" , "Person from Copenhagen" .)
