Greenish coin bearing six horses? (11)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

viridescent

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'greenish' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'coin bearing six horses?' is the wordplay.
'coin' becomes 'cent' (cent is a kind of coin).
'bearing' says to put letters next to each other.
'six' becomes 'VI' (Roman numerals).
'horses?' becomes 'rides' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should believe this answer much more).
'vi'+'rides'='virides'
'cent' put after 'virides' is 'VIRIDESCENT'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Another definition for viridescent that I've seen is " Greenish".)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
