Crossword Genius

Group at hotel to see Indian writer (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

seth

'indian writer' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'group at hotel' is the wordplay.
'group' becomes 'set' (both can mean a collection).
'at' means one lot of letters go next to another.
'hotel' becomes 'h' (phonetic alphabet).
'set'+'h'='SETH'

'to see' is the link.

(Other definitions for seth that I've seen before include "god of Egypt" , "Cain and Abel's younger brother" , "One of the first names recorded" , "said to sound archaic" , "Third son of Adam and Eve" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
