Had a row even with local revolutionary (5)
I believe the answer is:
oared
'had a row' is the definition.
(oar can mean to have an argument)
'even with local revolutionary' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'revolutionary' could be 'red' (red can informally mean communist) and 'red' is present in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for oared that I've seen before include "As some boats flew" , "Provided with motive power" , "ready for a row" , "Having something to pull on" , "Equipped with rowing blades" .)
