Hamper request to partake in wager (6)
I believe the answer is:
basket
'hamper' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'request to partake in wager' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'request' could be 'ask' (synonyms) and 'ask' is found in the answer.
'wager' could be 'bet' (synonyms) and 'bet' is located in the leftover letters.
No letters remain.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for basket that I've seen before include "Container of woven twigs etc" , "Hamper" , "Shopper may have this" , "it contains" , "Container with handles" .)
