Handed in notice without complaining (8)
I believe the answer is:
resigned
'without complaining' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'handed in notice' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'notice' could be 'sign' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'sign' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'reed' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for resigned that I've seen before include "Left a job voluntarily" , "Gave up one's job" , "calmly accepting situation" , "Long-suffering" , "without complaining" .)
