Hasn’t it yet learned to steer clear of insect spray? (8)
I believe the answer is:
greenfly
'spray?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't understand how one could define the other.
'hasn't it yet learned to steer clear of insect' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'it' could be 'e' ('e' can mean 'electronic' which is similar to 'IT') and 'e' is located in the answer.
'insect' could be 'fly' (fly is a kind of insect) and 'fly' is found within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for greenfly that I've seen before include "Pests" , "Common aphid" , "Common aphids" , "Garden pest" .)
