Crossword Genius

Having knocked back drinks, drive (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

spin

'drive' is the definition.
(I know that spin is a type of drive)

'having knocked back drinks' is the wordplay.
'having knocked back' says the letters should be written backwards.
'drinks' becomes 'nips' (miniature drink bottles).
'nips' backwards is 'SPIN'.

(Other definitions for spin that I've seen before include "what some bowlers hope for" , "Swift whirling motion" , "Revolve, turn" , "Move as a top" , "Rapidly rotate" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
