Crossword Genius

Headed back to independent shop (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

deli

'shop' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'headed back to independent' is the wordplay.
'headed' becomes 'led' ('lead' can be a synonym of 'head').
'back' says the letters should be written backwards.
'to independent' becomes 'i'.
'led' in reverse letter order is 'del'.
'del'+'i'='DELI'

(Other definitions for deli that I've seen before include "Seller of unusual foods" , "Shop selling foreign foods" , "place to buy food" , "Specialist foodshop(abbr.)" , "Fine-food store" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
