Crossword Genius

Heads off after star gets cover (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

sunshade

'cover' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'heads off after star' is the wordplay.
'off' indicates anagramming the letters.
'after' says to put letters next to each other.
'star' becomes 'sun' (Sun is an example).
'heads' anagrammed gives 'shade'.
'shade' put after 'sun' is 'SUNSHADE'.

'gets' acts as a link.

(Other definitions for sunshade that I've seen before include "Awning or parasol, for example" , "protective cover" , "Awning or parasol will provide it" , "shelter" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
