Heavenly flight to the capital of Turkey (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

planet

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'capital of turkey' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both people as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe you can see an association between them that I can't see?

'heavenly flight to the' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'the' could be 't' (the is pronounced as a 't' sound in some dialects) and 't' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'plane' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for planet that I've seen before include "Sun's orbiter" , "Venus, for example" , "Eg, a ruby" , "Eg, Mars, Venus" , "body in orbit" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
