Help when queen leaves family member (6)
I believe the answer is:
assist
'help' is the definition.
(to assist someone is to help them)
'when queen leaves family member' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'when' could be 'as' (eg 'when I walked' means 'as I walked') and 'as' is found in the answer.
'family member' could be 'sis' (short for sister) and 'sis' is present in the answer.
A single letter 't' remains which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for assist that I've seen before include "Be useful to" , "Help member" , "Understand by instinct" , "Help to make" , "Provide aid, help out" .)
