Hidden pavilion in Los Angeles? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

latent

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'hidden' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'pavilion in los angeles?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'pavilion' could be 'tent' (I've seen this in another clue) and 'tent' is found in the answer.
'los angeles?' could be 'la' (abbreviation) and 'la' is found within the answer.
No letters remain.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for latent that I've seen before include "Potential but not active" , "Existing but not yet developed, say ability" , "not out in the open" , "'Hidden, undeveloped (6)'" , "Hidden (talent)" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
