High Street shops - they need the dough, we're told (6)
I believe the answer is:
bakers
'high street shops' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are plural nouns, I cannot see how one could define the other.
I don't understand the rest of the clue.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for bakers that I've seen before include "Bread-makers" , "This dozen is thirteen" , "Unlucky number of loaves?" , "This dozen is 13 (5'1)" , "9 makers" .)
