Hooligan’s about taken in, given order (8)
![Ross](/clue/static/ross-mug.min.png)
I believe the answer is:
neatened
'given order' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both related to change as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?
'hooligan's about taken in' is the wordplay.
'hooligan's' becomes 'ned' (I am not sure about this - if you are sure you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'about' indicates putting letters inside.
'taken in' becomes 'eaten' (take in can mean to eat).
'ned' enclosing 'eaten' is 'NEATENED'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for neatened that I've seen before include "Straightened or tidied" , "put straight" , "Made tidy" , "Put in order" , "Put to rights" .)
