Ross

I believe the answer is:

enthroned

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'given a seat' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both to do with social activities as well as being past participle verbs.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'hornet flew around in conclusion' is the wordplay.
'flew around' indicates an anagram (I've seen 'flying around' mean this).
'in' is an insertion indicator.
'conclusion' becomes 'end' (something's conclusion is its end).
'hornet' is an anagram of 'throne'.
'throne' put into 'end' is 'ENTHRONED'.

'and was' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for enthroned that I've seen before include "Made bishop" , "Installed (as monarch)" , "Honourably placed" , "Put in place" .)

I've seen this clue in The Daily Express.
