Crossword Genius

Horrible lot and he is unfriendly (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

hostile

'unfriendly' is the definition.
(I know that unfriendly can be written as hostile)

'horrible lot and he is' is the wordplay.
'horrible' is an anagram indicator.
'and' says to put letters next to each other.
'he'+'is'='heis'
'lot' put after 'heis' is 'heislot'.
'heislot' with letters rearranged gives 'HOSTILE'.

(Other definitions for hostile that I've seen before include "Aggressive" , "Antagonistic" , "The soil strangely is unfriendly" , "Unkind" , "harsh" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
