However we refused to fly on the spot (5)
I believe the answer is:
hover
'fly on the spot' is the definition.
'hover' can be an answer for 'fly' (I've seen this before). I am unsure of the 'on the spot' bit.
I don't understand how the rest of the clue works.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for hover that I've seen before include "Be stationary in the air" , "Remain in the air; linger" , "Remain in one spot in the air" , "sky - so remain there?" , "Float above in the air, perhaps a craft" .)
