I book transportation first, then head out of Jamaica? (9)

I believe the answer is:
caribbean
'jamaica?' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I don't see how one could define the other.
'i book transportation first then head' is the wordplay.
'i book transportation' becomes 'carib' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'first then' says to put letters next to each other.
'head' becomes 'bean' (bean is a kind of head).
'carib'+'bean'='CARIBBEAN'
'out of' acts as a link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for caribbean that I've seen before include "WI" , "Sea south of the US" , "Part of Atlantic off Central America" , "Atlantic Sea off Central America" , "West Indian" .)
