Crossword Genius

I need a doctor for the foot (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

iamb

'the foot' is the definition.
(type of metrical foot in poetry)

'i need a doctor' is the wordplay.
'need' says to put letters next to each other.
'doctor' becomes 'MB' (Bachelor of Medicine, Medicinae Baccalaureus).
'i'+'a'+'mb'='IAMB'

'for' is the link.

(Other definitions for iamb that I've seen before include "Metrical unit" , "Poet's foot" , "Short-long metrical foot" , "Line of verse" , "Part of a pentameter?" .)

I've seen this clue in The Globe and Mail.
