Crossword Genius

I see woman mentioned that it's colder (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

icier

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'that it's colder' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'i see woman mentioned' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'i' is found in the answer.
'see' could be 'c' (the word for the letter, according to Chambers) and 'c' is present in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ier' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for icier that I've seen before include "increasingly frigid" , "More reserved" , "comparatively aloof" , "More cold or frozen" , "Even more frozen" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish Times.
