Crossword Genius

Immediately extinguished, just (8)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

outright

'immediately' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'extinguished just' is the wordplay.
'extinguished' becomes 'out' (synonyms).
'just' becomes 'right' (associated in meaning).
'out'+'right'='OUTRIGHT'

(Other definitions for outright that I've seen before include "Directly; without reservation" , "Not qualified" , "Total" , "Without reservation or stipulation" , "Completely - undisputed" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
