Crossword Genius

In a bad temper the day none came round (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

annoyed

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'came round' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I can't see how they can define each other.

'in a bad temper the day none' is the wordplay.
'in' indicates putting letters inside.
'bad temper' becomes 'nye' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'the day' becomes 'd' (abbreviation for day).
'none' becomes 'no'.
'a'+'nye'+'d'='anyed'
'anyed' enclosing 'no' is 'ANNOYED'.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for annoyed that I've seen before include "Cross" , "Irate" , "Upset" , "Irritated, irked" , "'Harassed, pestered (7)'" .)

I've seen this clue in The Irish News.
