In a hurry, leave church do (6)

I believe the answer is:
fleece
'do' is the definition.
(both can mean to scam)
'in a hurry leave church' is the wordplay.
'in' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'a hurry' becomes 'flee' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'leave' shows that the letters should be reversed in order (I've seen 'left' mean this).
'church' becomes 'ce' (abbreviation for Church of England).
'ce' written backwards gives 'ec'.
'flee' going around 'ec' is 'FLEECE'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fleece that I've seen before include "Sheep's woollen coat" , "Wool, of a sheep perhaps" , "Charge way over the odds" , "Do some asset stripping" , "Woollen coat of sheep" .)
