Crossword Genius

In Canada, it's more than a kingdom (5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

yukon

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'in canada' is the definition.
('Yukon' is part of 'canada')

'more than a kingdom' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'kingdom' could be 'uk' (UK is an example) and 'uk' is located in the answer.
The remaining letters 'yon' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...

'it's' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for yukon that I've seen before include "remote territory" , "River in northern Canada" , "mineral-rich area" , "Canadian region" , "Territory of NW Canada, east of Alaska" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
