In general, a noted predator (5)
I believe the answer is:
wolfe
'in general' is the definition.
'wolfe' can be an answer for 'general' (I've seen this before). I'm not sure about the 'in' bit.
'a noted predator' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'predator' could be 'wolf' and 'wolf' is present in the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for wolfe that I've seen before include "General, took Quebec 1759" , "Tom __, author of The Bonfire of the Vanities" .)
