Infield runs back to catch this shot? Unlikely (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

nurdle

'this shot? unlikely' is the definition.
'nurdle' can be an answer for 'shot?' (type of cricket shot). I'm not certain of the rest of the definition.

'infield runs back to catch' is the wordplay.
'to catch' indicates a hidden word (I've seen 'catches' mean this (the answer is caught in the clue)).
'back' says the letters should be written backwards.
'eldrun' can be found hidden inside 'infield runs'.
'eldrun' reversed gives 'NURDLE'.

(Another definition for nurdle that I've seen is " score gently".)
