Inseparable characters join learner in a frenzy with bloomer (7)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

jonquil

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'bloomer' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'inseparable characters join learner in' is the wordplay.
'inseparable' becomes 'qu' (I can't justify this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'characters' indicates anagramming the letters.
'learner' becomes 'l' (as in a learner driver with L-plates on their car).
'in' indicates putting letters inside.
'join'+'l'='joinl'
'joinl' anagrammed gives 'jonil'.
'qu' put within 'jonil' is 'JONQUIL'.

'a frenzy with' acts as a link.
This may not be right. Some or all of it may belong to another bit of the clue.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for jonquil that I've seen before include "Kind of narcissus (but not in fact a daffodil!)" , "Name used colloquially for any yellow daffodil" , "Flower" , "Flowering plant" , "Species of narcissus" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
