Crossword Genius

Instructing in espionage organisation by the sound of it (9)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

inspiring

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'instructing' is the definition.
The answer and definition can be both to do with communicating as well as being present participle verbs.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'in espionage organisation by the sound of it' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'in' is found in the answer.
'organisation' could be 'ring' (ring is a kind of organization) and 'ring' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for inspiring that I've seen before include "Filling with confidence, stimulating to achievement" , "Breathing in or activating the mind" , "Breathing (that's encouraging!)" , "Impressive" , "Animating; uplifting" .)

I've seen this clue in the Sydney Morning Herald.
