Crossword Genius

Intimate last few hours of working week? (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

friend

'intimate' is the definition.
(intimate can mean a friend)

'last few hours of working week?' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'last' could be 'f' (I've seen this in other clues) and 'f' is located in the answer.
'few' could be 'i' and 'i' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'rend' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

(Other definitions for friend that I've seen before include "China" , "Comrade for finder" , "Member of a religious community" , "Pal, mate" , "One you know well and regard with affection" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
