Crossword Genius

Inventor working after team set up (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

edison

'inventor' is the definition.
(Edison is an example)

'working after team set up' is the wordplay.
'working' becomes 'on'.
'after' says to put letters next to each other.
'team' becomes 'side' (both can mean a sports team).
'set up' says the letters should be written backwards.
'side' reversed gives 'edis'.
'on' after 'edis' is 'EDISON'.

(Other definitions for edison that I've seen before include "Inventor of the light bulb" , "US scientist/inventor" , "Inventor's" , "Incandescent light inventor" , "Early American inventor" .)

I've seen this clue in The Times.
