I believe the answer is:

writings

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'literary work' is the definition.
The definition and answer can be both related to communication as well as being singular nouns.
Maybe they are linked in a way I don't understand?

'is harrowing about it' is the wordplay.
'is harrowing' becomes 'wrings' (I can't explain this - if you can you should give a lot more credence to this answer).
'about' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'wrings' enclosing 'it' is 'WRITINGS'.

'in' acts as a link.

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for writings that I've seen before include "Literary compositions" , "literary works" , "literature" .)

I've seen this clue in The Independent.
