Crossword Genius

It could, of course, be a foreign part (6)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

region

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'part' is the definition.
(region is a kind of part)

'it could of course be a foreign' is the wordplay.
I cannot really understand how this works, but
'it' could be 'e' ('e' can mean 'electronic' which is similar to 'IT') and 'e' is found in the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is located in the answer.
'course' could be 'n' and 'n' is found within the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for region that I've seen before include "Area, neighbourhood" , "Ignore (anag) -- expanse of land" , "Area, zone" , "Area, location" , "Area - district" .)

I've seen this clue in the Evening Standard.
