I don't know anything about this answer so I can't tell whether this works.

'card table' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'card' could be 'trump' (e.g. in bridge or whist) and 'trump' is found in the answer.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).
