It's twice as much but, having only a pair, drop out of hand (7)
I believe the answer is:
twofold
'it's twice as much' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)
'having only a pair drop out of hand' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'pair' could be 'two' (a pair means two of something) and 'two' is found in the answer.
'of' could be 'o' and 'o' is located in the answer.
'hand' could be 'l' (abbreviation for left, as in the left-hand side) and 'l' is found in the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'but' is the link.

(Other definitions for twofold that I've seen before include "Double" , "Twice as much" , "Twice as numerous" , "Having dual elements" , "doubled in size" .)
