Jet following unseats Frenchman in spectacular rise (8)
I believe the answer is:
fountain
'jet' is the definition.
(I know that jet can be written as fountain)
'following unseats frenchman in spectacular rise' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'following' could be 'f' (used when citing page numbers etc) and 'f' is present in the answer.
'in' is within the answer.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for fountain that I've seen before include "gusher" , "Artificially produced jet of water" , "Man-made water-jet" , "Fan out in ornamental water jet" , "Artificial jet of water" .)
