Kept record that's scratched (6)
I believe the answer is:
scored
'scratched' is the definition.
(I've seen this in another clue)
'kept record' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite see how this works, but
'record' could be 'score' (scoring is a kind of recording) and 'score' is located in the answer.
A single letter 'd' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
'that's' is the link.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for scored that I've seen before include "Gained points in a game" , "Cut" , "Put ball in net - made deep groove" , "Hit - orchestrated" , "Put the ball in the net, or scratched" .)
