Kept under control as he guided round (7)
I believe the answer is:
leashed
'kept under control' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are past participle verbs, I can't see how one could define the other.
'as he guided round' is the wordplay.
'guided' becomes 'led' ('lead' can be a synonym of 'guide').
'round' means one lot of letters goes inside another.
'as'+'he'='ashe'
'ashe' going inside 'led' is 'LEASHED'.
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for leashed that I've seen is " restricted".)
