Crossword Genius

Key for Mozart's Prague Symphony hampering odd band leader (4,5)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

drum major

I'm a little stuck... Click here to teach me more about this clue!

'band leader' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'key for mozart's prague symphony hampering odd' is the wordplay.
I cannot quite understand how this works, but
'key' could be 'd' (musical key) and 'd' is located in the answer.
'odd' could be 'rum' (rum can mean strange or dubious) and 'rum' is found within the answer.
The remaining letters 'major' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This may be the basis of the clue (or it may be nonsense).

Can you help me to learn more?

(Other definitions for drum major that I've seen before include "Leader of a marching band" , "Non-commissioned officer in charge of part of a military band" , "NCO in charge of military band" , "Occasional tosser in band" , "Bandleader" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
