Labour member cryptically written as KPO? (5)
I believe the answer is:
pinko
'labour' is the definition.
Although both the answer and definition are singular nouns, I can't see how they can define each other.
'member cryptically written as kpo?' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'member' could be 'pin' (pin is a kind of member) and 'pin' is found in the answer.
The remaining letters 'ko' is a valid word which might be clued in a way I don't see.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Another definition for pinko that I've seen is " Left supporter's".)
