Lake sounds creepy (5)
I believe the answer is:
eerie
'creepy' is the definition.
(eerie can mean strange or creepy)
'lake sounds' is the wordplay.
I cannot really see how this works, but
'lake' could be 'erie' (Lake Erie is one of the Canadian/US 'Great Lakes') and 'erie' is found within the answer.
A single letter 'e' remains which might be clued in a way I don't understand.
This explanation may well be incorrect...
Can you help me to learn more?
(Other definitions for eerie that I've seen before include "Strange, unusual" , "Awesome" , "Spooky, weird" , "Mysterious" , "Frighteningly odd" .)
