Crossword Genius

Large-scale Eastern film (4)

Ross

I believe the answer is:

epic

'large-scale' is the definition.
(I've seen this before)

'eastern film' is the wordplay.
'eastern' becomes 'e'.
'film' becomes 'pic' (short for picture).
'e'+'pic'='EPIC'

(Other definitions for epic that I've seen before include "Long poem etc" , "Long poem set in nice picture" , "Vast in scale" , "Long literary work about great events" , "blockbuster" .)

I've seen this clue in The Telegraph.
